The Stone Age Institute, through a grant from the Kaman Foundation, is proud to present Janis Ian. A three time Grammy award-winner, Janis wrote her first song at twelve, was published at thirteen, and recorded her self-penned hit "Society's Child" at the age of fourteen. The song went on to ignite a national controversy, landing her in Time, Newsweek, Life Magazine, and on the Tonight Show.

In the 70s she had an enormous hit with "At Seventeen", became the first musical performer on Saturday Night Live, earned multiple platinum records in the United States, Japan (where she is called "the mother of female songwriters"), Australia, Europe, the UK, and South Africa. Her songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Celine Dion, Hugh Masakela, Bette Midler, Chet Atkins, John Mellencamp, Nina Simone, Glen Campbell, and Cher.
